Editorial policy

EuroWattCalc publishes calculators and articles about household electricity use across Europe. This editorial policy sets out the standards we hold every page to, so readers know what to expect from our content and how we handle accuracy, independence and corrections.

Accuracy first

Every calculator on this site is built on a documented, checkable formula — see our methodology page for the underlying arithmetic. Where we provide default figures, such as typical appliance wattages or example tariffs, we source them from manufacturer specifications, EU energy-label data and recognised efficiency guidance, and we clearly label them as examples rather than live market data.

Transparency about assumptions

We aim never to present an estimate as a guarantee. Worked examples, example-cost tables and default values are explicitly described as illustrative throughout the site, and every calculator explains what it does and does not account for — for instance, that appliance running-cost tools estimate usage cost only, excluding standing charges, taxes and network fees that also appear on a real bill.

Independence

EuroWattCalc is not an energy supplier, installer, regulator or financial adviser, and we have no commercial relationship with any specific supplier that influences a calculator's output. Advertising may appear on this site to support hosting and development costs; advertising partners have no editorial control over calculator formulas, default figures or article content.

Sourcing and citations

Country and guide articles reference general, publicly available information about electricity markets, appliance efficiency and typical household usage patterns. Where an article discusses country-specific pricing context, we describe general market structure and typical ranges rather than quoting a single live price, since retail tariffs change over time and by supplier.

Corrections

If a reader identifies a formula error, outdated default figure or factual mistake, we welcome the report via our contact page. Confirmed errors are corrected on the live page, and material corrections are reflected in the page's last-updated information where shown.

Review cadence

Calculator defaults, guide articles and country pages are reviewed periodically to keep formulas, terminology and example figures reasonable. Pages that reference typical prices or ranges are treated as needing more frequent review than pages describing fixed physical formulas, which do not change.
