About EuroWattCalc
EuroWattCalc is an independent collection of electricity and energy calculators, built for a simple, recurring problem: most people can look at an appliance and have no real sense of what it costs to run, and most published "average electricity price" figures are already out of date by the time they're read.
What we built
The site is organised around three layers. The calculator collection handles single-appliance questions — what does this air conditioner, washing machine or EV charger actually cost, given its power draw and your tariff. The Savings Lab handles whole-household and comparison questions — where does the money actually go, is a tariff shift worth it, does an appliance upgrade pay for itself. The guides and country pages explain the concepts and billing structures behind the numbers, so the calculators aren't a black box.
Our method
We prefer transparent arithmetic over hidden estimates. Every calculator page shows the formula that produces its result — watts, time, kWh, tariff, charging efficiency or self-consumption, depending on the tool — rather than a number with no visible working. If you can see the formula, you can sanity-check the result against your own bill, which is the point.
Why we ask for your tariff
Electricity prices and bill structures vary by supplier, contract, country, region and time period, often significantly within the same country. A rate copied from your own bill is almost always more useful than a permanent "average Europe" figure, which is why the calculators default to an editable example rate rather than a fixed price, and why the country guides explain bill structure rather than publish a single number as fact.
Editorial principles
- Explain the formula behind every result, not just the output.
- Label example values as examples, never as current market prices.
- Separate variable energy cost from fixed bill components (standing charges, network fees, taxes) wherever practical, rather than blending them into one misleading total.
- State the assumptions a tool makes, and what it deliberately excludes.
- Review calculators and guides when formulas, terminology, regulation or site functionality changes.
How the site is maintained
EuroWattCalc is run by a small, independent operator rather than a large publisher. Calculators and guides are built and reviewed directly, and corrections reported through the contact page are read and acted on personally. Independence
EuroWattCalc is not an electricity supplier, regulator, installer or financial adviser, and has no commercial relationship with any energy company. Advertising may support the site; advertisers do not see, review or influence calculator formulas or results before publication.
