How much does a washing machine cost to run?
Estimate the electricity portion of washing-machine running cost. Water charges and detergent are separate and are not included here.
How this calculator works
EuroWattCalc converts the appliance's power from watts to kilowatts, multiplies it by the time used, then multiplies the resulting kilowatt-hours by the electricity price you enter.
Formula: cost = (watts ÷ 1,000) × hours × days × price per kWh.
What can change the real cost?
- Most of the electrical energy in a warm wash goes into heating water, so wash temperature can materially change consumption.
- A machine does not draw its maximum rated power throughout every stage of a cycle.
- Eco programmes may run longer while using less energy; duration alone does not tell you the total kWh.
If you are comparing programmes, use the programme-specific kWh figure where possible rather than the machine's maximum input power.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a long eco cycle sometimes use less electricity?
Longer time can allow the machine to achieve cleaning with lower temperatures and different wash patterns, so duration and energy are not directly proportional.
Does this include water cost?
No. The calculator estimates electricity only.
How do I price one cycle from an energy label?
Take the listed kWh for the cycle or programme and multiply it by your price per kWh.
